OKKA's 2024 recap

the cave you fear to enter, holds the treasure you seek.

AB sums it up.

2025 ain’t ready for me.

but let’s recap 2024.

launch!!! drop 1 (jan)

started with a bang!

with the benefit of hindsight, maybe i rushed this one.

but ya gotta rip the bandaid off. things will never be perfect. the timing will never be perfect. just commit and let rip.

50 odd orders for my first time ever had me running around like a chook with its head cut off.

but i survived.

incredibly grateful for those who supported early on. can’t quite manage with words how much it means when i’m still getting it all together that you would take the punt on me allowing to continue my dream.

i’m a lucky guy.

drop 2 (may)

starting to understand it now!

average order value increased. great percentage of frens returning from drop 1.

process/system wise there was still a lot to be desired. but i was happy with how much improvement there was from launch.

and most of all, i feel like my style/design/vibes were increasing.

if you aren’t chasing vibes at all costs, then what the fuck are you doing?

japan trip (may)

brief interlude to gather inspo, and explore what’s out there.

loved this trip so much. i added like 500 pieces of inspo into my folder, giving me plenty to work with.

drop 3 (june)

just getting after it! was it the biggest drop by # of orders? no.

but that doesn’t mean it wasnt successful. AOV rose. my process improved.

i’m focused on getting reps in.

like a beginner at the gym. does routine, diet, and recovery have to be immaculate? no.

you just have to get stuck in. commit and learn.

very happy with my progression :)

FTS Stall #1 (july)

tough but rewarding day!

my first ever pop-up/irl event. for a social goblin like myself, was an experience.

was hungover as fuck, battling a monster headache, yet was still so damn glad i did it.

20 odd orders! and a lot of interesting people met :)

sometimes i think the monetary value might not be there, but the act of getting out there pays for itself tenfold.

mini drop (sept)

a lil something something to whet the whistle intermittently.

experimented with mystery tees which i think were a hit (might try again this upcoming drop?)

but nothing craaaaazy. just getting more reps in!

FTS Stall #2

a grind.

thought i’d figured the game out after stall #1, but stall #2 kicked my arse.

super slow. did like 50% of the numbers i did the first time (and bear in mind, FTS #1 i was hungover as fuck and didn’t know what planet i was on, so i assumed if i was actually alive this time i’d do infinitely better)

ah well shit happens. glad i had a crack.

is it the best use of my time? maaaaaaaaybe.

still finalising my thoughts on future popups like these.

drop 5 (nov)

starting to get my groove on. figuring out.

experimenting with polo designs and materials!

vests were new, and a few new headwear bits. i’m on top of the world!

🚨 new fuckup just dropped 🚨 i accidentally dropped an unlabelled package in a post box. i was meant to drop it off by hand and hoooo boy what a nightmare. auspost gave me fuuuuck all to work with there so i basically gave up on the damn thing. only to find some 8 weeks later, it made it’s way to its final destination.

shoutout auspost, i guess?

summary

what a fucking whirlwind of a year. learned a lot and learned it fast.

business-wise i’m like 10 steps ahead of where i thought i’d be at this point in time. am i making a proft? not even close.

total revenue was around the australian min wage. total expenditure (i prefer the term investment) has been like 2.5x that. so firmly in the red for now.

but in truth, i don’t give a flying fuck about profit. if i do great work, reinvest every spare cent i have into OKKA, i know down the line it will payoff.

you can’t rush greatness.

get weird.

get funky.

have fun with it.

big year ahead, but the only shot that matters is the next one.
