drop #2 recap + lessons

drop 2 recap. no fluff, just sauce.

the numbers

If you remember the first drop, I did a tick over 50 orders.

This drop, given the hype around the launch wasn’t there, I genuinely was hoping for 20-odd orders.

Well, fuck 20 orders, basically matched it!

And because of the huge increase in AOV, total sales were UP 50%!

Fucking insanity.

So what drove the increase in AOV? Bundles.

I truly believe bundles are the best win-win for everyone. You get a steal for combining items, and I get to save time, money and effort by combining one big order rather than smaller individual orders.

Now disclaimer: I genuinely don’t give a fuck about the sales $ or money aspect. Genuinely. I’m nowhere close to breaking even yet. Not even halfway. I just wanna see people fucking vibe with this.

I think I can get OKKA to sustain itself soon enough. But either way, this thing is fun as fuck and I’m loving seeing people love it.

I only share the sales success as proof of concept and appreciation for people getting around it, not to flex. Hope it doesn’t come across that way.

🥰 good bits 🥰

45% of frens returned from the first drop! This is a stat I don’t know how to exactly approach. Obviously, you want everyone who buys to be repeat customers. but at the same time you want new ones as well. I think this number encompasses the best of both worlds, so I will treat it as such.

Vibes just feel good. I really feel like I’m onto something. and I’m not even truly cooking yet! I still feel I have pleeeenty left to improve, so to see it get such good traction early, makes me believe when I start to hit my straps, this rocket is gonna take off. I’ll go into imposter syndrome in the next section, but when I’m feeling good? Faaaaark me I’m feeling good.

😬 less than stellar bits 😬

I fucking stink at being efficient and orderly. drop time is chaos. I have gear everywhere in different stages and my brain is in 5 different places at once. it’s tough.

“Be regular and orderly in your life, so that you may be violent and original in your work”

I’m gonna get my systems and processes in place, to save me the brain power to get funky and weird in other aspects. I always loved the anecdote about how obama only wore blue and grey suits. It ain’t worth the brainpower on tedious bullshit. focus on what matters and what moves the needle.

Tangibly related to being prepared, I think my marketing is lacking. It’s currently an afterthought most times. I have an idea of what I want it to look like, and it’s nowhere near that.

With my marketing, there’s been no overarching plan or strategy. Maybe people like that because it feels authentic? But imagine how good the response would be if I can get my messaging and story across crystal clear.

📝future bits📝

Reset and rebuild. I legit want to step back, look at everything I do from start to finish, and see what can be changed and improved. Whether it’s the printing process, stock storage, or how I pack orders. Everything is going under the microscope.

I have a rough idea of what will need to be changed and revamped. But I just feel like I’ve been so deep in the trenches doing these drops, I haven’t actually stepped back and seen all my shoddy scaffolding holding this beautiful building up.

So I know I can do it, I just wanna make sure my cathedral’s foundations are rock solid.

Also, relating to marketing and my general sharing, I wanna get weird. Try some things. Experiment. What’s the worst that could happen?

"It is much easier to be fired for being illogical than it is for being unimaginative. The fatal issue is that logic always gets you to exactly the same place as your competitors." - Rory Sutherland

conclusion

Big few months gone. Even bigger few months coming up!

Learn, build, share, repeat.

It’s that simple.

“Maybe that’s enlightenment enough: to know that there is no final resting place of the mind; no moment of smug clarity. Perhaps wisdom...is realizing how small I am, and unwise, and how far I have yet to go.”
