the idea -- launching a golf brand

Why?

I love golf. Like, I fucking LOVE golf.

Since 2019, I’ve played well over 100 times each year. Meaning I’m on the course 2-3 times per week.

But golf gear sucks.

So why not create my own?

Who?

I want something I can wear. Major golf brands are cool and all. But I want something personal. A little more authentic. And a little cool.

I want to wear my gear on the course, but then not look like a dweeb going to the pub afterwards. Golf is cool as fuck. And I want the clothing to reflect that.

Min Woo Lee is a perfect example of someone I think who is making golf cool.

I want to build on that.

Look at those sleeves. The tasteful thickness of it. Oh, my God. It even has a watermark.

But back to battlers like you and me.

I want to focus on the blokes that enjoy Aussie summers, those that sneak on for a quick 9 in the arvos, and those that just love playing golf with their mates.

How?

I’m a control freak. I want to do it all.

I want to draw the designs, do the screenprinting, and really dive into the details of everything.

Titleist is a faceless, soulless, boring, corporate zombie. I want to be the opposite of that.

When?

It’s early days. I’m predicting it’ll all be ready to be up and running by early next year.

Just in time for summer. Best time of the year.

Why the wait? I want to be 110% sure I can offer an absolutely mint product for the golf course that’ll hold up off the course too.

I’m aware of the “move fast and break things” mantra, and the idea behind just shipping and iterating. But I want this to be gooza right from the get-go.

If I’m not 200% satisfied and beyond stoked with my own gear, how can I expect anyone else to be?

The Process

Now I get stuck in. I wish I could give you more details, but I’m like a relief teacher walking into a class full of screaming kids. Where the fuck do I even start?

So there’s going to be a lot of product testing, test screenprinting, feedback, redesigns, more testing.

Until I see ya next, enjoy kings!
